Adrian Irvine works as a freelance violinist, music producer, composer, and arranger in Toronto, Canada.
He received his Masters in Violin from the University of Toronto where he studied with Erika Raum and was a teaching assistant to the former Director of the Electroacoustic Music and Recording Studios, Dennis Patrick. Adrian studied Violin Performance at the Memorial University of Newfoundland under Dr. Nancy Dahn and received a minor in composition for his studies with Dr. Andrew Staniland and Dr. Clark Ross. His time at Memorial sparked a keen interest in contemporary classical and popular musics from both performance and production perspectives.
Adrian performs regularly with ensembles throughout southern Ontario, including the National Academy Orchestra, the Mandle Philharmonic, the Niagara Symphony, and the Freesound Collective, amongst others. He can be heard on recordings for Centre Disks, Universal Music Mena, and Paper Bag Records along with releases from independent artists spanning genres from hip-hop to folk. Adrian performed on the premiere recording of Bekah Simms’ Granitic which received a JUNO nomination in 2018.
Throughout his post-secondary studies, Adrian experimented with recording technology and music production predominantly in hip-hop and R&B styles. In March of 2020 Adrian released his first EP as “the ai” titled Machine Living, in which he blends elements of pop, hip-hop, EDM, and classical music to create dramatic and unpredictable textures. In 2019 he co-produced Pariyon Ki Rani, the debut EP from the NYC based Hindi-English group SAMAA, and since then has continued to collaborate with them on upcoming releases. Adrian now works as head of production at Sonar Records, an independent label specializing in artist development. A full list of production & string recording credits can be found on the “listen” page.
